CHAP (Care Home Assistant Practitioner)
Our CHAP programme provides senior care staff with the knowledge and skills to carry out some clinical tasks that have historically been restricted to Registered Nurses.
There is a current national shortage of Nurses that is likely to continue for the forseeable future and the CHAP role has been introduced as a positive initiative in response to the problem.
The CHAP role allows the organisation's senior carers to work under the mentorship of Nurses and to take on additional responsibilities.
The programme typically takes 6-12 weeks to complete within which there are a number of face to face clinical training days.
Programme Summary - Participants will initially attend an induction day to gain a thorough understanding of the CHAP role. They will examine the programme diary, requirements and the need for topic self study. reflective practice and portfolio development.
Online Learning - Participants will undertake a number (normally 3-6) of supporting online courses. These are selected in order of organisational priority from a catalogue of over 80 options.
Face to Face Clinical Training days - Organisations will choose the Clinical topics they wish their CHAP candidates to participate in. This defines the number of days and hence the number of weeks the programme takes to complete.
Programme Completion & Certification - The programme concludes with submission of the participant's portfolios which evidences all that they have learned and will include proof of mentored competency. Candidates will also take an End Point Assessment. Successful candidates will be certified as Care Home Assistant Practitioners.
